De Brit Richard Kershaw, een van de belangrijke wijnmakers van de streek, heeft het tot zijn hoogstpersoonlijke missie gemaakt de volledige potentie van het terroir van de kleine wijnregio te ontrafelen.  Dat doet hij door wijn te maken van specifieke klonen chardonnay, pinot noir en syrah – de signatuur-druiven van Elgin als je het Richard vraagt – die staan aangeplant in diverse wijngaarden en op verschillende bodemsoorten.
